Rhinophyma Surgical Treatment

Rhinophyma is a skin condition that causes the tissue in the nose to grow rapidly and make the blood vessels enlarged. It is often characterized by a large, red, bumpy or bulbous nose. Rhinophyma is classified as part of subtype 3 rosacea and forms gradually over several years. This condition can be distressing to live with and may trigger awkwardness in social settings. In some cases, rhinophyma can also cause pain and tenderness.
Surgery corrects these problems
  • Reshaping the nose to improve its appearance and help a person breathe better
  • Reducing enlarged blood vessels
  • Removing overgrown tissue

-Rhinophyma surgery is treated by sculpting the outside covering of the nose usually using an electrocautery. This removes the significant excess skin and glandular tissue leaving a raw area that re-epithelialization occurs in about a week, like a skinned knee.

The downtime required after surgery will vary from individual to individual, however, we usually recommend that patients set aside 4 weeks to fully recover from the surgery. After this time, the skin should start to look smoother and the nose should be in a more desirable shape. Health insurance typically covers this type of procedure.

Our surgical procedures are always performed in hospital facilities for your safety and not in office settings.
